Backbones

Backbones Kennel was official registered 6th of June 2009 and is running by me, Andreas Uhrwing.
I was brought up on a farm and have always been surrounded by animals and the work around animals. Dogs have been a part of my life since I was a kid. At first it was German Shepherd dog and Jack Russell, but then I felt I was looking for a dog with that “special” thing.
Through a temporary job at a medical clinic for animals, I first got in contact with American Staffordshire Terrier.

I really liked the combination of mental strength and the enormous devotion and loyalty of the breed. Unlikely what some people have claimed about Amstaff, this is a breed that seeks human contact and also is very fond of children.
In 2004 I bought Atlas, my first Amstaff and since that day I was stuck. Thoughts about breeding was not a step too far ahead, and after the purchase of Arla, time was right to start a kennel of my own.

By Backbones my ambition is to highlight the many good qualities of the Amstaff. All our dogs live as a part of our family and side by side with children. But yet, we’ll always have in mind this is a breed that demands an owner with a practiced hand.

You made me what I am today, courage at its best.
You wanted me to know no fear, a cut above the rest.
Not only did I master that, I’ve thrown in loyalty, too.
Look past my eyes into my soul, you know I’d die for you.
I’ll watch your kids, I’ll watch your house.
Your praise will be my crown, ask what you will – I’ll do my best.
I’ll even be your clown.
But some of you don’t like me, I’m sure I don’t know why.
The only thing I’m guilty of is courage, love and try.
But still they want to see me go, they want my breed to end.
Will I see you sitting idly by?
You, whom I call a friend?
You made me what I am today, you never saw me waiver.
I’ve done my best to keep you safe –
won’t you please return the favor?
